Northern Virginia Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation (NVQUWF) on July 18-19, 2015 sponsored a Chesapeake Foundation trip for 27 Boy Scouts, leaders and others to participate in a Chesapeake Bay Foundation trip to Smith Island. The trip was enjoyed by all and was a real learning experience. This opportunity was made possible through a grant to QUWF from the Trans Urban I-95 Corridor Foundation.
During our the visit to Smith Island youth and adults experienced hands-on involvement with storm water improvement projects such as wetland/submerged aquatic plantings, stream bed protection, runoff diversion, establishing sediment and erosion control measures. Participants learned from a “water man” the value of the Chesapeake as a National and regional resource and the impact to these resources from improperly planned and managed land development.
NVQUWF would like to thank all the adult leaders that came along and help with the scouts and in particular, we would like to thank Scott Lingamfelter, our Virginia State Delegate who helped to coordinate trip with the folks from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
